Description

Job Summary

The Zonal Accountant is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the organisation’s general ledger within a branch. Working under the direction of the Accounts Payable & Receivable Manager, the Branch Accountant directs and coordinates the daily activities of the accounting staff within a branch to quickly and accurately record the revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees the daily accounting activities required to maintain the organisation’s general ledger within a branch.
Monitor entries in the general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of posting and compliance to company’s approved procedure and processes.
Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff (including, but not limited to, cash reconciliations, accounts receivable transactions, fixed asset activity, accounts payable transactions, debt activity, recording of revenue and expenses, etc.).
Cash management (including placement/movement of funds) within a branch.
Maintains organized set of detailed records and files to document financial transactions.
Resolves complex accounting issues and assists other personnel in resolving financial issues.
Reviews general ledger on a regular basis to ensure accuracy of posting.
Coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
Monitoring and interpreting cash flows
Provide report on branch financial activities on a periodic basis
Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Qualifications

A Bachelors Degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration)
Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACA or ACCA

Experience

Minimum of 5 years work experience in related field
